Strengthened local cinema: PM

It is sorrowful to see artistes who contributed towards a bright era of Sri Lankan Cinema leaving us one by one. Roy de Silva was such a special artiste, who was a great strength towards the forward march of local cinema in many faces, such as a veteran actor, film director and producer, states Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, in a condolence message issued on the death of veteran film actor, director and producer Roy de Silva.


CIABOC calls on biz to fight bribery

If the private sector is serious about stamping out bribery, it must step up and cooperate with the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), its top official said yesterday, calling on companies to work with its officials, insisting it would be faithful to its task.

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) will institute legal action against the Financial Crimes Investigation Division, the Criminal Investigation Department, the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation and the Associated Newspapers (Ceylon) Limited in respect of a series of alleged defamatory stories, which erroneously claimed that the China Harbour Engineering Limited had in 2014 provided US$ 7 million for former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s Presidential Election bid.
