National Policy for the disabled

The necessary initiatives have already been taken to formulate a national policy for the disabled. This has been revealed by Minister S.B. Dissanayake.

He further said that the national ceremony for the disabled will be held in Kandy on Thursday.
The Minister said that special attention will be focused on improving the education of the disabled while making the grants needed to develop the respective institutions. Three percent of jobs are allocated for the disabled in the public sector. However, this is not being properly implemented. The necessary arrangements have been made to re-issue the circular. There is a special Charter prepared by the United Nations on the disabled. This will be forwarded to the Cabinet and then presented in Parliament.

The Minister revealed that a national policy on the disabled has been prepared. Action is being taken to apprise the state institutions in this respect.
