Construction work on the Moragahakanda Project has been expedited. The work on this massive development project is slated to be completed within two years and the work is proceeding round the clock.
The cost of the entire project is 74,000 million rupees. The Project is planned to release water for 84,000 hectares. Accordingly water will be provided for cultivations in the Polonnaruwa, Anuradhapura, Trincomalee and Matale Districts.
Another aim of the Moragahakanda Project is to supply drinking water. Families displaced as a result of the Project are being successfully resettled. The facilities required by these families are being met through the Mahaweli Authority.
Accordingly it is intended to complete the work on this mega project by the year 2017 and vested in the public.
