The Development Officers Service Union will hold a protest which will start at the D.S. Senanayake roundabout at 11.30 a.m. today (12), followed by an island-wide strike.
Chairman of the Union, Chandana Sooriyaarachchi claimed that this protest will be accompanied by a simultaneous strike by Development Officers in all districts.
Sooriyaarachchi further added that Development Officers have resorted to strike action due to a series of issues that they have faced for a long time, which includes being given tasks unsuitable for graduates, low salaries and the lack of a promotion process.
He also claimed that Development Officers who have joined the Government service in 1993 have still not been given any promotions and are employed in the same grades.
The protest is one- day protest and will end at the Ministry of Public Administration today. However, Sooriyaarachchi noted that the strikes will continue, if their demands are not met with a positive response by the Government.
