TNA opposes construction of temples in NE

TNA Parliamentarian M.A. Sumanthiran said, his party will vehemently oppose the building of Buddhist temples in Tamil areas. “We have opposed the construction of Buddhist Temples since 2011,” he said.

He further said, “We have submitted two statements regarding situations in the North and East in 2011. The issue regarding Buddhist temples was also included and as a result, many were removed. But building new temples in places where Buddhists don’t live has not stopped.”

Sumanthiran assured that his party will take action to stop building Buddhist temples in areas where Buddhist do not live.

Meanwhile, commenting on illegal settlements along the Mahaweli Development Area, he said, “I spoke in Parliament regarding this issue. I requested the Mahaweli Authority to provide water but not outsiders. Recently Northern Provincial councillors visited the Mullaitivu border villages.”

He further added that these are important issues and the TNA will take action. “We will not allow a situation like in the East,” he said.
He said so early this week while commenting on contemporary politics.
