President refers to responsibility of protecting environment

It is the responsibility of everyone to protect the environment and natural resources. The present Government is fulfilling this obligation to the letter. There is no room for unnecessary influences that least to the devastation of the environment and natural resources as during the previous regime.

These observations have been made President Maithripala Sirisena.The President was speaking at a function held at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday(25). It was organized to mark the handing over of the 25th Anniversary publication of the “Vana Waarana” Magazine produced by the Sri Lanka Wildlife and Natural Forest Conservation Association.

President of the Sri Lanka Wildlife and Natural Forest Conservation Association Prof. Lakdas Fernando handed over this publication to President Maithripala Sirisena. Parallel to this event the set of proposals of the Forest and Animal Conservation Association was also presented to the President. The President made a clarification on the decision taken by the previous administration to resettle displaced families in area affiliated to Forest Reserves.

Among those who graced the occasion were officials of the Sri Lanka Wildlife and Natural Forest Conservation Association.
