Activating Red Notice and arrest warrant on Mahendran CID ordered to inform Court

Colombo Fort Chief Magistrate, Lanka Jayaratne yesterday ordered the CID to inform Court of the measures taken to activate the Red Notice and arrest warrant issued against former CBSL Governor, Arjuna Mahendran.


The Magistrate gave this order when the CID informed Court that Mahendran had sought a copy of the arrest warrant that had been issued against him along with evidence that has been presented against him and that they were in the process of seeking instructions from the AG whether it should be given to him.

Colombo Fort Chief Magistrate gave this Order when the case filed over the CBSL Treasury Bond scam was taken up for hearing at the Fort Chief Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Mahendran is a defendant in the case.


When Magistrate Jayaratne inquired as to what measures had been taken against Mahendran by the CID, the latter told Court that the former CBSL Governor had sought certain documents through Interpol.


The prosecution was represented by DSG Haripriya Jayasundera, DSG Lakmini Girihagama, Senior State Counsel, Chathuri Wijesuriya, Senior State Counsel Sahanya Naranpanawa along with officers from the CID.

Attorney-at-Law, Jeewantha Jayathileke, PC Anil Silva and a group of lawyers represented incarcerated beneficiary owner of PTL, Arjun Aloysius and CEO Kasun Palisena, while WM Mendis & Company was represented by Kolitha Dharmawardene PC.


Taking submissions into consideration, Chief Magistrate Jayaratne ordered the two suspects Aloysius and Palisena to be further remanded till 30 August. Parallely, the case filed against Aloysius, Palisena, former Chief Buyer of PTL Nuwan Salgadu and former Information Technology Officer, Sajith Devathanthri on charges of distorting conversations contained in the DVDs which was handed over by PTL to the PCol on the orders of the latter, which probed the CBSL scam was also taken up for hearing at the Fort Chief Magistrate’s Court yesterday.


Chief Magistrate Jayaratne ordered the Court Registrar to send a notice to the Government Analyst as the report into certain Court items had not been received by the Judiciary as yet.


Both Salgadu and Devathanthri have been enlarged on cash bail in Rs 300,000 each, while they appeared in Court yesterday.
