The Railways Trade Union Alliance (RTUA) Co-Convener S.P. Vithanage said the Government was attempting to privatize Railways by appointing a Railways Control Board and a Railways Authority. He was speaking at a media briefing held yesterday regarding the ongoing railway strike.
Meanwhile, the RTUA was of the view that Railways officers and workers not involved in the ongoing strike could operate train services. This is consequent to an order given by Sri Lanka Railways.
The RTUA also pointed out that trade union action is being carried out by Railways Guards, Station Masters, Drivers and the Supervising Managers Unions’ with collective participation.
Vithanage said the reason for the strike stemmed from unresolved salary discrepancies of the staff of the four categories involved in the strike.
