FM Sarath Fonseka - Police sources

High ranking officers of the Sri Lanka Police have revealed the identity of the Government Minister who has allegedly recruited underworld figures into his security detail. The Minister concerned was identified as Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka.

An informed Police source, speaking to Ceylon Today, on the condition of anonymity, revealed that investigations have uncovered tangible proof of these claims in the form of several photographs.

However, when inquired, Fonseka vehemently denied the allegations.
According to him, the allegations have been concocted by his opponents in the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna together with several media institutions.
“There are 13 Police Officers, five members of the Special Task Force and four Police inspectors in my security detail.

Therefore, why would I need underworld figures to protect me? I do not need much protection at present. I do not have an issue with my security,” he added.

He further noted that there are two more individuals—apart from the law enforcement officers—who assist him in his daily activities. He emphasized that one is a university student while the other is a former Police officer suspended from duty.
