Aluthgamage CIABOC case AG requests Trial-at-Bar from CJ

Deputy Solicitor General (DSG) Assad Nawavi yesterday (3), informed Colombo Chief Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake that the Attorney General had requested the Chief Justice (CJ) for a Trial-at-Bar, by a three-Judge Bench of the Colombo High Court, to hear the case against Parliamentarian Mahindananda Aluthgamage.

The former Minister of Sports has been charged, by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, in the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court with having ordered former Chairman of Lanka SATHOSA Nalin Fernando to import 14,000 items of sports goods for selected schools and sports associations and...... thereby causing a loss of Rs 50 million to the State during the last regime.

Magistrate Dissanayake then set 4 September for the Attorney General to inform the Court of the Chief Justice’s response to the request. The Parliamentarian did not appear in Court yesterday but furnished a letter to the Court stating that he was unable to appear as he had to attend a special meeting in Parliament. (Ceylon Today)
