Gayanthika and Indunil qualify for 800m final

Gayanthika Abeyratne and Indunil Herath have qualified for the Women’s 800m final of the ongoing Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia yesterday. The finals will be worked off today (August 28), starting with the women’s final at 6.00pm (local time) followed by the men’s final at 6.10pm.


Coach confident of winning medal in 800 metres

The athletic events of the Asian Games in which Sri Lanka hopes to win medals will begin today at the Glora Khan Karno ground. Aruna Dharshana and Kalinga Kumara of Sri Lanka will take part in the 400 metres heats in the morning followed by the Long Jump event in which Janaka Prasad Wimalasiri is scheduled to take part. Hiruni Wijeratne will be seen in action in the 10,000 metres events in the evening.

SL lasses beat Indonesia and Japan at kabaddi

Lankan women’s kabbadi team displayed superb teamwork to register two victories against host Indonesia and Japan at the 18th Asian Games continued in Jakarta yesterday. The Lankan lasses tasted bitter defeat in their first game against Thailand (15-41), but bounced back strongly to put themselves in line for a medal with back to back victories.
