MAJOR DRUG BUST ON HIGH SEAS

A group of nine Iranians were arrested along with 107 plus kilograms of heroin valued at Rs 1.2 billion in a joint operation, carried out on the high seas off the Southern Galle Coast, by personnel from the Police Narcotic Bureau (PNB), Special Task Force (STF) and the Navy during the early hours of yesterday (24) morning, official said.A deep sea fishing trawler that was transporting the heroin along with the Iranians was apprehended exactly 10 nautical miles from the Akurella Coast in the Galle area, Police Spokesman Superintendent Nuwan Gunasekera said.
